The arrangement/rhythm of musical elements on this CD is based on Penrose tiles (aperiodic tiling). It is broken into tracks all either 34 or 55 seconds long, for a total of 89 tracks (that is, 55 tracks plus 34 tracks), in accordance with the Golden Mean.

34, 55, 89 are successive terms in the Fibonacci Series - a sequence of numbers in which each term is the sum of the two previous terms. As the terms grow larger and larger the ratio of a term and its immediate predecessor approaches the Golden Mean, which is (1+√5)/2 or approximately 1.618.

What the hell runs through an artist’s mind when he decides to make an album with 89 tracks all 34 or 55 seconds long! Not exactly your best commercial approach, no?!

Ubar Tmar has never been one to think inside the box, though. I only know his other album True and feel inclined to reiterate my views on this here. You gotta work with Ubar Tmar’s music to get the full flavour. Macro takes you on a journey and like most journeys there are ups and downs. Occasionally, the music is bombarding you down. Other times its’ simplicity creeps under your skin.

It's hard to do good in words though. I guess you just have to hear it. But if you're looking for psychedelic trance music out of the ordinary this will suit you very well. If you're not into experimental, highly psychedelic trance stear clear.

Will fit right in in any well equipped psytrance collection.
It's 2 AM, and I'm listening to track 89 of Macrometasomakosmos, trying to figure out how the hell I'm going to explain what I've just heard...

To review this album isn't easy, since all tracks are divided in parts of 33 or 54 seconds.
The best way to listen to this album, is to see it as an inconsistent whole, to see the content as one, even though it is so varied. Or something like that.
Macrometasomakosmos has all the sounds a typical goa-song has. Some 303’s, sometimes Eastern sounding instruments, hypnotic voice samples, a kick, some breaks, … But I’ve never heard something like what Ubar Tmar does with it. Sometimes you can dance to it, a few seconds later you just have to stop and let it overwhelm you. He erases the boundaries of psychedelic music. It’s like he invented the wheel in a world with no bikes or cars.

Macrometasomakosmos takes you to all kind of places, places where sometimes you can chill out, and places where your thoughts run into overdrive because of all the noises that are being blasted towards you. If you take music seriously you will be amazed. This is psychedelic music made even more psychedelic. The rabbit hole goes deeper down than you think.
